My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #7 Care Divas - Saan Ka Man Dalhin

Thanks to the genius of lyricist and playwright, Vincent de Jesus, we have this gem of a musical entitled Care Divas, about gay, crossdressing caregivers working in Israel. The encore song of the musical lands at #7 for the year. It's an entertaining musical which is really an ode to our fellow OFWs abroad. I suggest you watch it when it makes another run. It's from PETA!

Here's a video of a performance of that song in a CCP concert in honor of Vincent.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #4 Parokya ni Edgar and Happy Sy - Pangarap Lang Kita

I haven't really been a fan of Parokya ni Edgar's song till this song of theirs came out middle of this year! I just love the tune and the interplay between the band and Happy Sy. That the song is also sang in Mandarin just shows how globalized everything is right now!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #5 Maldita - Porque

This is probably the first Chavacano song to make it to #1 in my OPM hit list! I love the way the band mixed Chavacano with Tagalog! It is definitely one of the sweetest love songs from last year. !

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #6 Rocksteddy - Christmas Single

I love Pinoy novelty songs and this one from Rocksteddy, is definitely one of them! Well, some people openly disliked the song but I think it's just the band poking fun at the single people out there - and if you can't get the joke, well, too bad! The song was my #1 favorite Christmas of last year. I even voted for it during Christmas week when they had the year end countdown!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #8 Siakol - Gawing Langit ang Mundo

If you asked me last year that a rock band would dominate my year-end list that year, I would've said, yeah, maybe Pupil would. Interestingly, it was my first time to listen to Siakol when I bought their CD earlier this year. That album has a lot of very good songs, and they're not just silly ditties - each one has a message of hope - or is some kind of protest against something! It's one of my five favorite albums this year! This song, Gawing Langit Ang Mundo is fitting for the recent tragedy in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #9 Christian Bautista - I'm Already King

I was definitely impressed by the songs in Christian's latest album, Outbound, and I'm glad he's singing all new songs this time. I missed watching the movie where this song came from. The publicity for this movie was so poor I only learned that it was showing when its run was already finished. This was not a song that I instantly liked. Took some listening before I began to like it. I guess I liked it so much it's in my year-end Top 10!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #10 Miguel Escueta - Now It Starts

The title track of his last album, becomes my #10 favorite OPM song of 2011. Released earlier this year, this song instantly became one of the most played songs in my Ipod. Too bad I never got to see him live! I did try to watch his show once in Ponti's but I guess I came too early.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #11 Bunny - For Your Information

I immediately liked this song when it came out late this year. Since I'm more veered towards pop-sounding songs, it wasn't very hard to like this song by Bunny.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #12 Amber - Ain't A Crime

You'd mistake the production values of this song to be that of a foreign one, but it is sung by a Filipina, RnB singer, Amber, who does a very good job of giving this vibe a more authentic ambient vibe. It was one of my favorite songs towards the end of 2010 when this one was released up to the early months of 2011.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #13 Karylle - OMG

I actually didn't immediately like this song. It took maybe 3 weeks before I noticed this song and another two weeks before I realized what a cute song it was, because basically, the song sings about a gay guy who looks prettier than Karylle! OMG!! Just listen to the chorus closely! Well, a friend posted this song on her Facebook wall and when I read her comment, I began to realize who Karylle was singing the song to!! Very funny indeed!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #14 Gary Valenciano - Home

According to Gary Valenciano, this song was actually from an earlier album - and what he did was pick out some songs from his different albums and put them in a new one which he released last year. I don't really mind that since it kinda gives this song a new lease of life. It should! It's such a beautiful song, and as usual, Gary sings it with such tenderness and reverence! It comes in at #14 in my year-end list!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #15 Letter Day Story and Jacq Dionisio - Isang Umaga

This song, Isang Umaga, by Letter Day Story and Jacq Dionisio of Kiss Jane, is actually just an album track from LDS' Sama-Sama album, but it comes in strong at #15 in my year-end list since I remember that when I first gave LDS' CD a spin, this became one of my "happy" songs of the week. I couldn't just stop listening to it! It just really made me happy! A song filled with optimism to get you through your day!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #16 David Di Muzio - Naiisip Mo Ba

Lest you forget, this is still the list of my 40 favorite OPM hits of 2011, and this year, an American gets into this list mainly because he sings the chorus of his song, Naiisip Mo Ba, in Tagalog. If you actually don't look at the video, you'd think a Filipino was singing it, because David has really aped our accent very well! It's a beautiful yet sad song and I only realized now it's about a break-up. Kinda reminds of someone who was important in my life - naiisip niya pa ba ako? Very cute!

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #17 Care Divas - Make It Vig in Tel Aviv

Three songs from Care Divas make it into my year-end list!  The second one is Make It Vig in Tel Aviv. It includes conversations between the five ladies which is really funny!  This song explains how they got their name - The Nightingales.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #22 Spongecola - Tambay

When this song was released middle of this year, it immediately became one of the most played songs in my Ipod. I love the energy that the song generates and it's a song about gimiks and the barkada - so it was easy for everyone to relate to it. The song ends at #22 in my year end list.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #23 - Somedaydream - Hey Daydreamer

Probably the most refreshing debut artist of 2011, Somedaydream burst out middle of this year with this Owl City-ish sounding song Hey Daydreamer, a song which promptly topped the local charts for several weeks. I personally love the synthesizer-sounding song and the song ends at #22 in my year end favorites list. His follow up song, Delivery Boys also ends in my year end list.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #24 Champ Lui Pio - Hanging Habagat

This song by Champ Lui Pio actually opened 2011 for me and immediately became one of the early frontrunners for this chart in the first quarter of the year. The song eventually ends at #23 in my yearend list and it's a strong first single for Champ who has left his band Hale around this time last year.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #25 - Letter Day Story/Yeng Constantino - Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang

This is actually just an album track and I don't think this was ever released as a single or radio hit, but nevertheless, it's one of the standout tracks from Letter Day Story's Sama-Sama. It's a beautiful ballad sung by such tenderness by both Yeng and Dexter, the lead singer of LDS.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #26 Itchyworms - Awitin Para Sa Mga Nagmumuni-muni

I discovered this song only two weeks ago but I love it so much because of its originality - although most of what is said in the song may be erroneous or politically incorrect. But of course, you can give Itchyworms - it's that sense of humor that has endeared them to all their fans since the mid-90s. This song will surely overlap into 2012 since it still ranks high in my weekly personal favorites list.
