Concert Review: Jay Sean, Live in Manila, September 3, 2010, Araneta Coliseum

I didn't expect too many people in the show since there's another show coming up on the 18th with a more exciting line up.  Nevertheless, there was a pretty decent crowd inside the cavernous Araneta Coliseum.  Vic and I decided to get a whole row just for ourselves so we were quite comfortable - munching the tasteless Pizza Hut pizzas while waiting for the show to start.  Luke Mijares opened the show. Not really a fan of him.  The Philippine All-Stars dance set was more interesting and they really showed why they were world-class talents!

The show was very short, since it started around 9:30 and ended quickly at 10:30.  I actually like his set.  He started off with 'Fire' and proceeded to do most songs from his current album, 'All Or Nothing'.  Between songs, he was very talkative and was very appreciative that he was able to perform here.  The most hilarious part of the show was when he sang 'If I Ain't Got You', a song from his current CD.  Since he wanted to sing the song to someone, he picked someone from the audience.  At first glance, the girl looked pretty and tall with long black straight hair.  Nice!  However, as the camera panned closer, the audience realized that the 'she' was just a beautiful 'he'! - so when Jay flirted with her - hugging her, putting his arms around her - the audience was howling with laughter!  I think Jay got it after a few minutes and realized that it was really a man!!  So he just sang a few bars from the song, politely asked the 'girl' to exit - and did the song all over again.  However, it was fun while it lasted!

The best part of the show was when Jay showed his vocal chops, aping the sounds of the instruments that were being played in a song that a DJ picked for him.  It was impressive and astounding since his voice was solid and clear and not out of tune!  I'm sure I was not the only one impressed with that section of the concert.  There was a lot of dancing too since he did 'Down', and 'Do You Remember' and '2012' - all crowd favorites - and made everyone jump and sing along!
