Yum Yum Enrique Gil Bumps and Grinds to Everyone's Delight

It's embarrassing to note that this is only the second OPM concert I've seen this year compared to all the foreign acts I've seen! And this one, I didn't even watch because the guy could sing! Just to be blunt about it, I watched Enrique Gil's concert because he really has a nice body and he can dance like a male stripper and for any red-blooded gay man - that's all the show we really want to see!

But don't think I was the only one who was excited!! The female bosses of ABS were in full force there so I'm sure they weren't there to watch Enrique Gil sing!! And they were all in the front seat! Even Vicky Belo was there! See, women of a certain age need their sexy men too!!

We all want our sexy boys and I was surprised (and a bit alarmed) that even the young girls were screaming their lungs out when Enrique was just holding a towel!! Talk about men being objectified nowadays! I guess in this day and age, it's tit for tat already.

Well, Enrique can really bump and grind like R. Kelly and it was really a "nganga" moment when he did that! It's a good thing I caught it on video! It's always great to have something 'inspiring' to watch when I'm having a bad day!

And he was not shy to just take it all off! Not in the Jake Cuenca way since there were kids in the crowd, just in the Parental Guidance, Zac Efron High School Musical, "I'm so cute", tulo-laway, kind of way. At least the director of the show really knew what would give the people their money's worth!

Discovering Vice Ganda

I am probably one of the few Filipinos who do not watch Showtime or GGV so I don't really know how or why Vice Ganda is famous or how he does his comedy.

My BFF Jennifer Sy has been inviting me for ages to watch his concerts in Araneta and I've always begged off since I was not familiar with his work. Well, finally, last night, I saw him do his comedy routine during Enrique Gil's show and he's really good!

I even video-d the whole thing because in a way, he kinda reminded me of me - and the shameless way I flirt whenever there is a cute guy around! It was like a no-holds barred in-your-face dropping of hints and innuendos here and there - and he was funnier because he wore a very sexy swimsuit with skin tone leggings and high heel boots!

Anyway, since the crowd last night was pretty young, I could sense he toned down his comedy by a hundred notches so I'm sure if it were an adult crowd - he'd surely go for a take-no-prisoners approach - and that would be fun to watch!

Regine Velasquez Tops My OPM Top 10 for the Second Time

Due to her surprise appearance in Alicia Keys' concert this week here in Manila, Regine Velasquez gets her second #1 hit in my OPM top 10 countdown.  She last appeared in 1989, when Narito Ako went to #1.  This week, their live performance of If I Ain't Got You topped both my personal countdown and my OPM top 10 - the first time it has ever happened in all the years that I've been chart watching.

Lady Gaga Gets Her 22nd #1 Song in My Personal Countdown

Even though Alicia Keys has nine of the ten slots this week due to her memorable concert here in Manila this week, that doesn't stop Lady Gaga from getting her 22nd #1 hit in my personal countdown.

Incidentally, that show is now my most favorite concert for 2013, due mainly to Alicia's superb performance as well as the wonderful surprises she sprang on everyone, including me!  She didn't even give a hint to any of us so we were really shouting at the top of our voices when the surprises happened!

Anyway, her live version of If I Ain't Got You, a duet version this time with Filipina singer, Regine Velasquez, one of the surprise appearances that night, makes it to the top this week, making it Alicia's thirteenth trip to the top of my personal countdown.  The same song also tops my OPM top 10 this week, the first time it ever happened in the history of my chart watching.

All the rest of the top 10 are her songs, jacking up her top 10 hits to 23.

Regine Velasquez and Apl d.Ap Guest in Alicia Key's Manila Concert

It was a pleasant surprise for many Filipino fans of Alicia Keys when local nightingale Regine Velasquez joined Alicia Keys in a duet of If I Ain't Got You.  Regine really hit all the high notes while Alicia did the second voice for the same song!  It was such a rousing number, I actually stood up in standing ovation after they did it.

After that, Alicia, segued into Where Is the Love, where Apl d.Ap of The Black Eyed Peas then came onstage, which again, got the crowd roaring!  The appearance of those two came as Alicia dedicated some of the songs to the victims of typhoon Yolanda.  She really sounded sincere with her comments, which endeared her more to her fans.

Here's the video of that great duet!

Concert Review: Alicia Keys Sets Manila on Fire

My most favorite concert of 2013 as of yesterday was Swedish House Mafia, which incidentally, was the first concert I saw this year - and concert after concert came and none of them came close to the magnificence of that show. Their show was just a dazzling display of lights, laser and incredible dance music.

Well, until Alicia Keys show last night. She didn't need to have too much gimmick like lights or lasers or synchronized dance choreography or an elaborate stage design. Just like her previous shows here, all she needed was her grand piano and this time, a motley of hunky male dancers and a pair of well-placed back-up singers who really helped her achieve the sound and the arrangement she wanted.

Funny thing is, this was already her third show in Manila, yet the MOA Arena was still filled up in decent numbers! Just goes to show that she really has a solid fan core base here in Manila. Since she was on a tour, her voice was topnotch last night! She was also more confident now in doing the little dance steps. No more awkwardness this time.

Well, I love her setlist last night! Since she has several albums already, she just picked the most familiar ones from all of them, and included a few new songs from her latest album, Girl On Fire. I was surprised that Brand New Me was well applauded and of course, Girl on Fire definitely got the crowd going! I was taking a video for the most part in the first half since I loved the sequence of the songs that she chose. I am actually more a fan of her more 'obscure' songs than the more famous ones since I like their very laid-back vocal and piano arrangements. My most favorite song was Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart, which surprisingly, she did as a whole song! I was checking out Youtube and in most of her previous shows, she just segued it with Unthinkable. Last night, she did it as a whole song, including that pretty piano bit in the end! It really made my night! Yun pala, more surprises were still in store for all of us!

Anyway, what set her concert apart from all the others this year was the surprises she had for everyone and her heartfelt concern for the victims of the super typhoon Yoladna. She actually gave a very nice talk towards the end of her show, before she sang If I Ain't Got You, where she surprised everyone when local nightingale Regine Velasquez came out! It was a beautiful duet with Regine doing the main vocals while Alicia did the second voice! It was such a delight to watch to think I'm not even a Regine fan! Then, Alicia proceeds with her spiel on love and caring for each other and then, Apl d.Ap comes on stage to do Where's the Love! Again, surprised everyone, including me!

Concert Review: One Night With the Cute Ryan Tedder and OneRepublic

I was a bit pissed that we came late for Ryan Tedder and OneRepublic's show tonight! Normally, concerts here in Manila start at 9PM but for some strange reason, they started the show at 8:30PM. Hay naku, kung kelan ako late, maaga sila, kung kelan naman ako maaga, super late naman sila!! Anobah!! Oh well. Ryan did a fantastic show tonight showing off his vocal prowess which sounded pitchy at times but who cares, this was the last night of their Asian tour and the guy wanted to wail many times!

They played mostly songs from their latest album, Native, which was great, because I only realized tonight what a great album it was, containing a lot of good material. I was just a bit pissed that I missed Light It Up, which was my most favorite song from it. I think it was their second song. Anyway, they did the other songs really well, from their encore songs Feel Again and If I Lose Myself to Preacher and I Lived. Of course, the crowd loved Counting Stars which is their current hit. The coliseum was packed with people tonight and it was great to be with a young crowd once again. They really knew how to party! Ryan promised to be back! I won't be surprised if they can continue to come out with interesting material. Ryan is, after all, a very talented songwriter as well.
