Francis Magalona As National Artist For Music: Why Not?
I was reading this article in the paper today that some quarters were pushing for a National Artist Award for Music be given to the late Francis Magalona. Well, why not? Influence-wise, he has been a source of inspiration for many of today's local musicians and singers. His love for this country cannot be doubted as he explicitly expresses it in many of his hit songs. I don't think that award should only be reserved for the fossilized artists of generations past but maybe include one or two from today's generation (Lea Salonga is another one who comes to mind, who also truly deserves the award.)
