Legendary local band Parokya ni Edgar has three top 10 hits in My OPM Top 10 countdown.
Two of them went all the way to #1.

This week, their third top 10 hit, Sing, their collaboration with Rico Blanco, moves up to #3 in My OPM Top 10 countdown.

Something Interesting From Parokya ni Edgar

I am not really a fan of Parokya ni Edgar, but every year, they come up with a song that I like!  Last year, their collaboration with Happy Sy, Pangarap Lang Kita, finished quite high at the top of my personal OPM charts. 

This year, their previous collaboration with Francis Magalona, Bagsakan, debuts again at the OPM Myx Countdown, this time with Francis' son, Frank Magalona, doing the rap part of his late Dad.  Cool!

Siakol Dominates the 2nd MyFABE Awit Awards

The rock band Siakol swept five MyFABEMusic awards including Artist of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year.  They also won the two rock awards for grabs - Rock Act and Rock Song of the Year.

Newcomer Daryl Leong won four awards, including New Artist of the Year, Pop Act of the Year, Pop Song of the Year and Movie/Musical Song of the Year.

R&B diva Chelo won the two awards in the R&B category while Parokya ni Edgar and Happy Sy won the Collaboration of the Year award.

A total of 13 awards were given this year.

2nd MyFABE Awit Awards: Collaboration of the Year

Three rock songs and an R&B dance track comprise the nominees in this category.  They are -

Letter Day Story/Jacq Dionisio - Isang Umaga

Letter Day Story/Yeng Constantino - Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang

Parokya ni Edgar/Happy Sy - Pangarap Lang Kita

And the award goes to - Parokya ni Edgar and Happy Sy for Pangarap Lang Kita. This is the first MFM OPM award for both performers.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #4 Parokya ni Edgar and Happy Sy - Pangarap Lang Kita

I haven't really been a fan of Parokya ni Edgar's song till this song of theirs came out middle of this year! I just love the tune and the interplay between the band and Happy Sy. That the song is also sang in Mandarin just shows how globalized everything is right now!

Parokya ni Edgar Delivers Another Hit, This time with Gloc-9

It was only last year that I really lent an ear to OPM music so I practically missed most of the career of Parokya ni Edgar, one of the rare local bands who gets advertising deals from such big brands like Mitsubishi.  When I saw them in that ad, I knew that then how big they were in the local music scene, even if I was not familiar with their discography.

They did release a song last year which promptly went to #1 but it was only their duet with Happy Sy where the band finally made a breakthrough to me!  It is definitely one of my biggest favorite songs this year. However, I still have to familiarize myself with their follow up song, One Hit Combo with Gloc 9. Nevertheless, it's already a hit in the OPM Myx Countdown, reaching as high as #2, for now.

The Best OPM Song Yet This Year: Parokya Ni Edgar's Pangarap Lang Kita

I haven't actually warmed up to the music of Parokya ni Edgar, although they've been producing hits for years now and a very loyal following. That is, until I heard their new song! Entitled Pangarap Lang Kita, this hit, is in my opinion, the best song that has come out of OPM this year. It has a beautiful melody arranged as a duet, and although the lyrics are a bit of a downer, it is frank and brutal. Nothing like unrequited love to tug at the heartstrings!
