Keane Concert Postscript: Tom Chaplin's Topnotch Voice

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I would love to have the voice of Tom Chaplin!  He was certainly topnotch last night since Keane was on a world tour and all that singing has really honed his voice, reaching all the high notes in many of their songs, including their hit Is It Any Wonder, which has no pauses - and I was amazed at how he managed his breathing!  He sounded great in A Bad Dream, Sea Fog, Bedshaped and We Might As Well Be Strangers - all melancholy songs made even more poignant by his singing.  It was great too to be with the band's fans here in Manila.  I did not know that there many of us here - and they knew the band's songs as well, even the one which are not so famous!

Keane Concert Postscript: Venue Pictures Before the Show

Well, Keane doesn't really have a mainstream hit like other British bands and the MOA Arena is really such a big arena to fill!  However, it was great to see them include Manila in their Asian city tour!  I took these pictures ten minutes before the show began. The distribution of the people were a bit sparse but these guys were really the real fans!  Even my seatmates in the Upper Box knew their songs, even the ones which were not too famous.  Ditto with my seatmates in the Lower Box!

As I was waiting for the concert to start, I saw this advert for the upcoming Sting concert in December.  Definitely one of the concerts I am looking forward to see this year!  I haven't seen Sting for 18 years now so a return here is just fitting!

Keane Concert Postscript: Groupon + Upgrade = Lower Box

I was just testing the camera here as we were on our way to the concert.

I realized now that there is this big video thingie on the ceiling of the MOA Arena which I did not notice before.  This was my first time in the Upper Box area so you couldn't really see this if you were in the Lower Box or Patron.

This is me in my Lower Box seat!  Definitely much closer than my previous seat!

I was lucky again tonight to have my seat upgraded! I was holding an Upper Box ticket for the Keane concert (which I got 50% off through Groupon) when the usher told me if I wanted to go to the Lower Box! Well, that happened as we were one-third into the show but I didn't mind! It was definitely better to see the band a little bit closer - and for the price of 795 pesos only! And the concert? Well, I think I lost my voice a bit when I got home. The lead singer kasi has a really high voice it's tough to sing along with him. His 'do' is like two octaves higher than mine!
