A Christmas Song Tops My OPM Countdown This Christmas Week

It is not unusual for a Christmas song to top My OPM Top 10 countdown and it has happened several times over the course of the four decades of my countdown.

In 1986, Gary Valenciano topped my OPM countdown with the classic, "Pasko Na Sinta Ko", and the year after the diva Kuh Ledesma, put "Nakaraang Pasko" at #1.  

Then in 1990, Jose Mari Chan released the classic Christmas i nour Hearts album, which placed two songs at #1, the title track of the album and "A Wish for Christmas Night"

Then in 1993, Ariel Rivera's "Sana Ngayong Pasko" went to #1.  

Then in 2014, Joey Albert's "Kumukutikutitap"became the last Christmas song to top my countdown.

Till this week, when ABS-CBN released their Christmas station ID, a pretty catchy Christmas tune, sung by 38 of their talents.  It tops My OPM Top 10 countdown this week.

A Broadway Song from A Tony-Winning Play is My #1 Song for 2017

It is not uncommon for me to choose a Broadway song as my favorite song for the year.  In 1997, "Seasons of Love" was my #1 favorite song for that year, in 2003, Hairspray's "You Can't Stop the Beat" figured prominently in my year end list and in 2005, Wicked's "Defying Gravity" beat out all the popular songs for that year.

It happens again in 2017, as "For Forever" from the Tony-winning play, Dear Evan Hansen, is my #1 song for the year.

Girl Group Fifth Harmony Snags 9 Nominations in 2017 My FABE Music Awards

Girl group Fifth Harmony snags nine nominations in the 2017 My FABE Music awards, including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Vocal Collaboration of the Year.

The Cast of Dear Evan Hansen follows them with 8 nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, 2 nominations for Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

English synth band Chvrches and urban R&B artist The Weeknd has seven nominations while French pop singer Vianney got six.

This year, awards are to be given in a wide array of fields including new age, jazz, gospel/Christian among others.  Only the Latin field was unable to post nominations this year.
