Snow Patrol grieves with flood victims

It was such a class act for the the lead singer of the band Snow Patrol, Gary Lightbody, to make these comments during their concert yesterday.  I was particularly touched that he said these good things about us.  It hasn't been an easy week for Filipinos here in Luzon and it was great that our visitors have offered some sort of support to uplift our spirits.  The band did not disappoint performance-wise!  It was also fitting that I like their song Lifening, which they dedicated to the audience and the flood victims that night.

Concert Pictures: Snow Patrol Fallen Empires Tour Manila

Until last night I didn't know how the band Snow Patrol looked like!  I guess I never checked out their videos in Youtube and just contented myself to listening to their songs.  They put on a great show last night buoyed by the fact that their lead singer, Gary Lightbody has a fantastic voice. They sang all their hits from 'Run', 'Chasing Cars', 'Set Fire to the Third Bar', and 'Just Say Yes'.  Even their new songs sounded great like 'Lifening' and 'Called Out in the Dark'.

Concert Review: Snow Patrol Concert Pictures Set 2

Although I was familiar with some of the songs of the band Snow Patrol, I did not have enough time to listen to their concert setlist last night so I couldn't really identify all of the songs they sang.  However, they sounded fantastic and Gary Lightbody's voice was strong and clear and he was very gracious in mentioning how concerned they were about all the flooding that was happening in the metropolis.

The band effectively used a partitioned video wall to heighten the impact of their already beautiful songs.  Through the use of disparate videos and lights, the band added more dimension to just plainly playing their songs.  It was great to watch the light show from where I was since it served to intensify the urgency of the songs - which is a common theme in their songs.

(How I Came to Know the Band)

Snow Patrol is one of those bands whose music I am familiar with but don't really know how the band looks like!  Through the years, they have been coming up with particularly inventive songs like Run, or Chasing Cars, or Just Say Yes, but I've never actually bothered to check a video of the band - so up to last night - I had no idea how their lead singer looked like.  All I knew was that he had a fantastic voice and they had songs  which were not necessarily monster radio hits - but appealed to a certain sector of the population - which included me!

I was introduced to the band via the song Set the Fire to the Third Bar.  I was drawn to the song because of the wonderful blending of the voices between the band's lead singer, Gary Lightbody and Martha Wainwright.  I remember the song charting somewhere in the UK singles chart and I was immediately hooked.  I then learned later on that they also did the original version of Leona Lewis' Run, and Just Say Yes, which was always being played as some sort of station ID by the cable channel Star World.

Download of the Week: Snow Patrol's Called Out in the Dark

The Scottish alternative rock band, Snow Patrol, has returned with new music this week, and their latest single is entitled Called Out in the Dark. Their last hit song was Just Say Yes, and it peaked at #15. Several of their songs are personal favorites of mine, like Run, Just Say Yes, and Take Back the City.
