The Kronos Quartet and Zedd Top the 6th MyFABEMusic Awards

An American string quartet and an EDM DJ tops this year's MyFABE Music Awards.  The Kronos Quartet and Zedd win four and three awards each in this year's awards.

This is the first time a classical act tops the awards as the Kronos Quartet had two wins in the new classical category (Classical Act and Classical song - for The Beatitudes), the Movie/Musical/TV Song of the Year (The Beatitudes again from the Oscar-winning movie La Grande Belleza) and Instrumental/Acapella Song of the Year.

On the other hand, DJ Zedd won two of the four most coveted trophies of the night, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for True Colors. He also won Dance Act of the Year.

The American new wave band Walk the Moon got the coveted Record of the Year award and another DJ production GTA got the New Artist of the Year award.

A DJ, an up-and-coming chanteuse and a provocative female singer-songwriter lead the nominees in the 6th MyFABE Music Awards.

Zedd, Ariana Grande and Tori Amos all have six nominations each, making them the leaders in the 6th MyFABEMusic Awards.  

Tori Amos got nominated for three major awards, Artist, Album (for Unrepentant Geraldines) and Record of the Year (for Selkie), Pop Act of the Year and two nominations for Pop Song of the Year (for Selkie and 

Zedd got nominated for two major awards, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for his album True Colors, and the two dance category awards (Dance Act and Dance Song of the Year) and one for Collaboration of the Year and surprisingly, in the R&B Song of the Year. 

Ariana Grande was also nominated for two major awards, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her album, My Everything. She also got nominated for Pop and R&B Act of the Year, and two nominations for R&B Song of the Year.

FABE Weekly Top 10: #10 Zedd - Daisy

Zedd's Daisy re-enters the FABE Top 10 this week at #10. The song has already peaked at #3.  It's counted as Zedd's 6th top 10 hit in my personal countdown. 

Fresh and Ready to Party with Zedd

Waiting for Zedd.....I only caught one opening act since I decided to arrive late, knowing that the star of EDM shows usually play fashionably late!

The one I caught though, called Haywyre played a pretty cool set, a kind of smooth R&B which was prevalent in one of Janet Jackson's 1990s album - the one which had her famous hit 'Together Again'.

It was good that I skipped gym today since I didn't want to waste my energy there. I've learned in EDM concerts past that it would be wiser to just sleep all afternoon since these things finish really really late!

I wanted to be fresh and ready to party!

Concert Review: My First Zedd-Experience in Manila

I missed Zedd's first concert here in 2013 because it was in the middle of the crazy Christmas season. I didn't want to be driving to MOA in Christmas traffic. That's no fun at all!

In less than two years, he's back, and I did buy his True Colors album (which is also the title of his concert tour, and although there are no tracks that really jump on you, what I noticed was that the songs really sounded great live!!

I've been listening to the album the past week and Zedd played almost all the songs except my most favorite, which was also the least danceable of all, Daisy.

However, everything else sounded exceptionally well live, especially, (at least for me), Done With Love, which was his first encore song! It sounded amazing since he really played the whole track! Bumble Bee sounded also great as well as Addicted to a Memory, since both songs are really true blue EDM tracks - pulsating electronic beats!

I'm just glad I chose a section which had aircon blasting all over it, because at least we weren't too sweaty! Also, I had a whole section of seats to myself, which was great!! I'm actually not really a fan of dikit dikit dancing.

Sam Smith has had a banner year in 2014.  He starts 2015 with a bang by getting his third #1 song from his album In the Lonely Hour.  Like I Can moves up this week to #1.

My Ten Favorite Songs of 2013 (#'s 5-1)

#5 Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert - Same Love

I like Thrift Shop.  I do not like Can't Hold Us.  But it was this song Same Love, by Macklemore, which really caught my attention.  The first time I heard it, I had to rewind it several times just to make sure I was hearing the lyrics right!  Macklemore is, after all, a white rap artist, and this genre has never been known to be cozy with the gay rights movement.  Great song with a great message!  

#4 Swedish House Mafia - Greyhound

This was the opening song of the band's concert here in Manila January this year.  It was a breathtaking and pulsating scene and the memory of it has lingered with me throughout these 365 days!  The song is just an instrumental, which is rare in my personal countdowns and it's a bit short but the effect on me is just ecstatic frenzy!  This is by the way, the highest charting song that we dance to in Body Jam class.

#3 Zedd featuring the Foxes - Clarity

This was one of those rare songs where it was love at first hearing!  The lyrics were just apt for what I was feeling at that time and the way the song was arranged makes it reach just a perfect climax!  I learned later on that it had become popular with everyone else.  Well, it would be hard to escape a great dance song like this!

#2 David Bowie - Where Are We Now

2013 opened with this melancholy song from David Bowie, his first number 1 song in my personal countdown since the 80s!  The song has stuck with me throughout the 365 days and is my #2 favorite song of the year, despite its forlorn mood.  

#1 Emeli Sande - Clown

This quiet and sad song from Emeli Sande came out early in 2013 and has maintained being my most favorite song for the year.  I just love it!  I love the spare arrangement and the way Emeli sings it!  Unfortunately, none of her follow ups or songs from her album quite caught my interest the way this did.

DJ Zedd tops the 2013 myFABE Music Awards with four wins, including Favorite New Artist of the Year,  Favorite Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Dance Act of the Year and Favorite Dance Song of the Year for his worldwide hit, Clarity.

Mika snags three awards including the coveted Favorite Performer of the Year and Favorite Album of the Year.  He also wins Favorite Pop Performer of the Year.

Other double winners include Emeli Sande, Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert, Ne-yo, Jessica Sanchez and Togeworl.

Mika and Macklemore have the most nominations in the 2013 myFABE Music Awards with five.  Mika's nominations include Favorite Performer of the Year, Favorite Album of the Year for the Origin of Love, Favorite Pop Performer of the Year, Favorite International Song of the Year for Elle Me Dit and Favorite International Performer of the Year.

Rap newcomer Macklemore's nominations include Favorite Record of the Year for Same Love, Favorite New Artist of the Year, Favorite Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Rap Performer of the Year and Favorite Rap Song of the Year.
