My OPM Myx Countdown Votes This Week - Giniling Festival @ginilingfest

(For the week ending July 6, 2012)

The trend continues this week wherein some of the songs that I'm voting for are not even in the OPM Myx Countdown.  But who cares, I'm the voter so I choose which OPM songs I like for that week. Here are the four songs I'm voting into the OPM Myx Countdown this week -

#1 Giniling Festival - Hipon (4 votes per day)

#2 Chris Cantada - Scarred (3 votes per day)

#3 Jurassic Pards - Akyat Bahay Gang (2 votes per day)

#4 Toto Sorioso - Himala Ay Nawala (1 vote per day)

My #6 to #10 Favorite OPM Songs of 2012 (As of June 30, 2012) @theitchyworms #opm #10FavouriteBands @tanyamarkova @ginilingfest @anakarylle #popsfernandez

The first six months of 2012 has come and it's time once again to list down my ten favorite OPM songs of the year (as of June 30, 2012).
This is the second of two parts, this one detailing my #6 to #10 favorite OPM songs, as yet, of 2012.

I have to advise you though that this is a running list and the song's position may change as 2012 progresses because new entries can come in.  Everything is subjective, really, and is just based on how much I really like (or liked) the song.\

#6 Itchyworms - Awitin Para Sa Mga Nagmumuni-muni

I am not really sure what year the band Itchyworms released this song but since I 'discovered' it only this year, when I listened to the CD where this song was, I count it as a personal hit for me this year.  It's also probably one of the most creative and inventive songs any OPM act has done!  Truly hilarious!

#7 Tanya Markova - Da Facebook Song

No surprise really to find yet another Tanya Markova song in this year's top 10 list.  The band has been producing a lot of wonderful music these past two years and their latest Da Facebook Song is both cheeky and current!

#8 Giniling Festival - Hipon
I actually didn't know that the significance of hipon among the straight crowd is the same as that of the gay crowd.  But if you listen closely to what the band is singing, that observation becomes apparent!  I'm glad I discovered this band last month!  Another one of those inventive, quirky and definitely creative local bands we have in the local music scene right now!

#9 Karylle - Basically

It's a pity that Karylle's management has not given her the chance to do a live show.  I think she's ready now and I'm sure she has enough fans out here who would want to see her - maybe Teatrino or the Music Museum are worthy venues.  It's just that her latest album has already spawned several hits and by doing a series of live shows, she can promote it more and give those songs a live dimension!

Her ballad Basically ranks high in my favorite OPM songs of 2012!

Ok, I admit it might be that I'm an 80s child but I really recommend to you Pops Fernandez's Silver album.  It's quite a gem, filled with beautiful pop songs - so much so that three of those songs are in my OPM top 40 for 2012 - and two of them are in my top 10 - the second one being this one, By Heart.

Discovering Giniling Festival

Another band that caught my attention during that B-Side gig was Giniling Festival.  Medyo type ko lead singer nila, chinito na cute na astig - I don't even know his freakin' name!  And their music is hard driving comedy rock!  I remember that their band had a short stint sa OPM Myx Countdown with Hipon, which they played that night!  Live-wise, magaling sila and even if halos walang audience, they still performed like there were many people!  Astig!

Rocking with Robin Nievera, Chris Cantada, Jurassic Pards and Giniling Festival

Anyone who says OPM is 'naghihingalo' should go out more and seek out clubs and bars where true OPM talent plays! I admit I am a belated fan of OPM mainly because I was a 'charts' guy and I only discovered the Myx OPM Countdown two years ago! Que horror! So it was only last year din that I decided to watch the gigs of the bands I liked. They're not exactly household names yet (I think you'd have to be an ABS-CBN or GMA talent to be one, nowadays) but talent-wise and music-wise - they are as creative as the new music that I listen to from all over the world.

So yesterday, after I got notice here in FB that Chris Cantada had a gig in B-Side, I decided to drag my friend Mahtab to come with me. My only other gig experience in a local bar last year with Eevee, Ajka and Letter Day Story was a lot of fun as I got to interact with the band members! This time though, I only got some photo ops since there weren't many people in the bar!! Harang!!

The good thing was, it actually felt like a private show!! Parang birthday ko lang!! Without my rowdy friends! Both Mahtab and I enjoyed the music of both Chris and Robin and we were also happy to discover the music of two bands - Giniling Festival and Jurassic Pards!! I mean, we were like seven only in the audience, but these two bands performed like we were 1 thousand screaming fans! Such professionalism and dedication to their craft. A lesser artist would've just given a B-show but these guys gave their A-performance - screaming fans or none! They really got my respect in that aspect.

Oh well, I'll still be using FB to prowl for gigs from my other new favorite OPM acts. Sana lang wag mag-conflict with my 'other' events. Luke Mejares' show kasi will conflict with my Wimbledon - sayang.....oh well.....ganyan talaga buhay.....

New OPM Music This Week: Giniling Festival's 'Hipon'

Another new band that I've only heard this week is Giniling Festival and they play really rockin' music! Their new song 'Hipon' or shrimp, I think, also alludes to someone who has a problem in the looks department! In gay lingo, hipon is a guy with a sexy body but with an ugly face!
