Franco Tops My OPM Countdown for the Second Time
Local band Franco, gets their second #1 song this week, as To Survive, moves up to the top spot. Two years ago, they had their first #1 song with Better Days.
Incidentally, this same song comes from the same album. I just decided to listen to the album again and chose four other strong tracks from it to compete with the other OPM songs. To Survive is such a strong track, it went all the way to #1.
Here are my ten favorite songs for the week ending June 26, 2015 -
#1 Franco - To Survive (#2)
#2 Gimme 5 - Pag Kasama Ka (#3)
#3 Hale - See You (#4)
#4 Silent Sanctuary - Sa Piling Mo (#5)
#5 Paolo Onesa - You Are So Beautiful (#6)
#6 Julie Anne San Jose - Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang (#7)
#7 Angeline Quinto - Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin (#8)
#8 Thor - Pa'no Ko Sasabihin (#9)
#9 Never the Strangers - Sabay (#10)
#10 Pupil - Why (NEW)

2nd MyFABE Awit Awards: Rock Act of the Year 2011 Nominees
The rock category is normally one of the most hotly contested categories, even just to get a nomination is hard enough, what with the good quality of bands and artists out there. This year was no different. Although I am more privy to pop music, there were still a lot of rock acts who made it to my year-end list this year.
Here are the nominees for the MyFABEMusic Rock Act of the Year 2011 -
Champ Lui Pio
Pupil
Rocksteddy
Siakol
Spongecola
The winner will be announced on December 31, 2011.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #31 Pupil - TNT
Pupil has two songs in my personal yearend list. Both come from their album 'Limiters of the Infinity Pool'. The first one, TNT, comes in at #31. It's a wonderful and unique rock song which stands apart from what other local rock bands are doing. Great work from the band!

Pupil's Limiters of the Infinity Pool: The Best OPM Album of 2011, So Far

I've been listening to several releases by OPM artists this year, and although I'm not much into Pinoy rock music, I've been impressed by what I've been hearing from Pupil's latest effort - Limiters of the Infinity Pool. Maybe it's my bias towards songs written in English but I love the work Ely has done on this album. It really shows that he's a true artist making his unique voice heard through his music. His band is like the Radiohead of the Philippines, pushing further and further, the sound of Pinoy rock, without fear of departing from what is considered classic or formulaic. As I said on the title piece, this, for me, is the album to beat, in my list of best OPM album for 2011.
Also, by listening to this album, you wouldn't even know Ely had a previous band called Eraserheads. His creative talent is just so deep he has just forged on with his music, instead of dwelling on the laurels of his glorious past.

My Requests for this Week's OPM Myx Countdown

I made some changes in my votes this week, including new music from veterans Pupil and Rico Blanco. Here are my requests -
1. Somedaydream - Hey Daydreamer - a wonderful pop song that sounds a tad bit like Owl City. Oh well, everyone has their influences! (4 votes per day)
2. Pupil - TNT - Ely Buendia's Pupil has been coming out with interesting songs these past few years but this is the first one that I've actually voted for! I might actually buy their CD too! (3 votes per day)
3. Spongecola - Tambay - I went to the record shop last weekend and none of Spongecola's albums had this song! Where can I find it? I want to hear their other songs too! (2 votes per day)
4. Rico Blanco - Kahit Walang Sabihin - this is the first Rico Blanco song I've voted since I voted actively but I've had some albums from Rivermaya and a solo album of his too. His video is very interesting too. (1 vote per day)
