Juris Tops My OPM Top 10 for the Fifth Time

Juris is the fourth OPM artist to get a second #1 hit for 2013.  Angeline Quinto did it last March, Ebe Dancel followed last May, then last week, Chris Cayzer did it.  Juris' Kahit Di Mo Sabihin flies from #5 to #1 this week.  It's also her fifth #1 hit in my OPM countdown.

Chris Cayzer gets his third #1 hit in my OPM top 10 this week, as You're the Only Thing, moves from #2 to #1.  Inside You and Drive went all the way to #1 last year.

Somedaydream Dishes Out Something New

You just have to hand it to this guy, Rez Toledo, who goes under the name Somedaydream, to come up with something fresh and inspirational!  I just heard his new single, It's Your Life, and it's up there with his Hey Daydreamer release last year!  He has certainly matured now - a lot I think and he's becoming more and more sophisticated with the way he mixes the sounds and the instruments.  

It's quite refreshing to hear Champ Lui Pio here too - and there's also a newcomer Luigi D'Avola.  You also have to check out the fantastic video!  It's a beautiful mishmash of the kinetic sports images, discrete actions from the best of each sport.  Lovet!

My OPM Myx Countdown Votes This Week - April 30, 2012

After sizzling in the lower rungs the past few weeks, finally, Tanya Markova gets to the position they've been used to before - as the most voted OPM song of the week - a feat they did before with Disney, Picture Picture and Linda Blair.  This week, they return with the first song from their repackaged album - Tanya Mark-over - and the song is Da Facebook Song.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #23 - Somedaydream - Hey Daydreamer

Probably the most refreshing debut artist of 2011, Somedaydream burst out middle of this year with this Owl City-ish sounding song Hey Daydreamer, a song which promptly topped the local charts for several weeks. I personally love the synthesizer-sounding song and the song ends at #22 in my year end favorites list. His follow up song, Delivery Boys also ends in my year end list.

My Favorite OPM Songs of 2011: #39 Somedaydream - Delivery Boys

Somedaydream is one of my favorite breakthrough OPM artists of 2011. Not only is he a great songwriter and lyricist, his sensibilities are so technopop, I love it! This song, Delivery Boys was his follow up to his monster hit, Hey Daydreamer - and it did not disappoint. It highlighted his strengths as a future hitmaker!

My Votes For this Week's OPM Myx Countdown

I haven't voted for sometime now and I miss doing it.  So this week, I am voting again and here are the five songs I like in the OPM Myx Countdown.

1.  Bunny - For Your Information - my tastes are really skewed towards pop, and it's no different this week, as my favorite OPM hit this week is from a girl called Bunny and her song, For Your Information.  She sounds like Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's. (4 votes per day)

2.  Angeline Quinto - Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin - I have been voting for mushy saccharine ballads of late, the last one being Sarah Geronimo's Kung Siya ang Mahal.  Angeline continues that tradition as her song becomes my #2 pick this week, so it gets 3 votes per day.

3.  David DiMuzio - Naiisip Mo Ba - Probably one of the cutest songs released this year, just because of the fact that a white guy is singing Tagalog lyrics.  It's my pick #3 this week and it will get 2 votes per day.

4.  Somedaydream - Delivery Boys - rounding off the four songs I'm voting this week is another pop song which currently rules the charts, Somedaydream's follow up to Hey Daydreamer. 1 vote per day.

Somedaydream: One of the Exciting New Acts of 2011

The second single from Somedaydream, Delivery Boys, has rocketed to #1 in the local Myx OPM Countdown and it has cemented Somedaydream's cachet as one of the exciting new local acts of 2011. Not only can this guy come out with intelligent and thought-provoking lyrics, he has carved out a sound which has become truly his identity.

My Requests for this Week's OPM Myx Countdown

I made some changes in my votes this week, including new music from veterans Pupil and Rico Blanco.  Here are my requests -

1.  Somedaydream - Hey Daydreamer - a wonderful pop song that sounds a tad bit like Owl City.  Oh well, everyone has their influences! (4 votes per day)

2.  Pupil - TNT - Ely Buendia's Pupil has been coming out with interesting songs these past few years but this is the first one that I've actually voted for!  I might actually buy their CD too! (3 votes per day)

3.  Spongecola - Tambay - I went to the record shop last weekend and none of Spongecola's albums had this song!  Where can I find it?  I want to hear their other songs too!  (2 votes per day)

4.  Rico Blanco - Kahit Walang Sabihin - this is the first Rico Blanco song I've voted since I voted actively but I've had some albums from Rivermaya and a solo album of his too. His video is very interesting too.  (1 vote per day)

My Votes For This Week's OPM Myx Countdown: May 14, 2011

Well, pop is still king in my votes this week as three of the songs I'm voting for have the pop flavor.   None of the new songs have caught my fancy yet so I'm not sure how my votes will change as some of these songs fall off already.  Here are the four songs I'm voting this coming week -

1.  Frencheska Farr - Isama Mo Ako - 4 votes per day - definitely a slow burn song for me, but now, it's something that I like to hear.  I like her lush voice and she doesn't have to birit unnecessarily.

2.  Spongecola - Tambay - 3 votes per day - this song has yoyo-ed up and down in my personal favorites list - and this week, it's on the up again!  I just love the chorus!

3.  Somedaydream - Hey Daydreamer - 2 votes per day - finally, this song has reached #1 and the kids have discovered the song!  I still like it but I couldn't find this guy's CD in Astrovision =(

4.  Maldita - Porque - 1 vote per day - Still high in my favorites list - I still love the way they placed Chabacano lyrics in this song

There are several new songs in the OPM Myx Countdown this week and all of them sound very promising.  Most likely some of them will be part of my list this next few weeks.  In fact, one of them is already #1 on my list.  I know this song because I already bought the CD of this guy before, so I'm already familiar with it.

Anyhow, here are my votes for the OPM Myx Countdown this week -

New OPM Picks: Somedaydream's 'Hey Daydreamer

This song really sounds like one of those done by Owl City, although the latter sounds like he really does the vocals sans Autotune. The Autotune you can hear in this song is a novelty but I do hope the singer does not really rely on it just for gimmick because it could just mean one thing - he doesn't have a good singing voice - which I think would be too bad especially if he comes up with well-written songs. That gimmick could only last him up to two hit songs tops, after that, he'd better get a really good vocalist - which should not be a problem here in Manila.

This song though is cute and I'm starting to love it! It's already at #3 in the OPM Myx Countdown so I'm voting for it so it may go higher than that.
