The band Franco has five top 10 hits in my personal countdown. Three of them went all the way to #1. 2013 - Better Days (#1) 2015 - To Survive (#1) 2015 - A Beautiful Diversion (#1) 2015 - Across the Milky Way (#9) 2016 - Manipulator (#9)
Franco is currently my band du jour. It's a pity I missed their show at the Music Museum around May this year. In my opinion, they have composed some of the best rock songs these past few years, especially in English.
This song is actually from their 2013 album Soul Adventurer, pero yun nga, since I'm not a teenager anymore and I barely have time to listen to albums, maswerte na talaga yung mga acts na napagtutuunan ko ng pansin.
Their whole album is pretty solid, as they say, walang tapon na song, each one can stand on its own. This is one of the songs with a very strong arrangement plus relevant lyrics pa talaga.
This is Franco's fourth top 10 hit in my OPM Top 10 and it lands this week at #9. All three of Franco's songs went all the way to #1. His album, Soul Adventurer has been a treasure trove of hits for him.
Local band Franco is on a roll this year, after I gave their album a spin, they now get their 3rd #1 song in my OPM countdown as A Beautiful Diversion rises to #1. Frankly, their album is one of the most mature and most well-thought out albums that I've listened to in a long time, and it deserves and Album of the Year award from me at year-end. Here are my ten favorite songs for the week ending July 31, 2015 - #1 Franco - A Beautiful Diversion (#2) #2 Lyca Gairanod - Puede Nang Mangarap (#3) #3 Young JV - Ale (#4) #4 Angeline Quinto - Nag-iisa Lang (#5) #5 Isabelle de Leon - Sa Yakap Mo (#6) #6 Nadine Ilustre - Me and You (#7) #7 Jason Dy - Caught in that Feeling (#8) #8 Marion Aunor - Take A Chance (#9) #9 Jay-R / Mica Javier - Tonight (#10) #10 Thyro / Yumi / Jeric - Triangulo (NEW)
Local band Franco, gets their second #1 song this week, as To Survive, moves up to the top spot. Two years ago, they had their first #1 song with Better Days. Incidentally, this same song comes from the same album. I just decided to listen to the album again and chose four other strong tracks from it to compete with the other OPM songs. To Survive is such a strong track, it went all the way to #1. Here are my ten favorite songs for the week ending June 26, 2015 - #1 Franco - To Survive (#2) #2 Gimme 5 - Pag Kasama Ka (#3) #3 Hale - See You (#4) #4 Silent Sanctuary - Sa Piling Mo (#5) #5 Paolo Onesa - You Are So Beautiful (#6) #6 Julie Anne San Jose - Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang (#7) #7 Angeline Quinto - Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin (#8) #8 Thor - Pa'no Ko Sasabihin (#9) #9 Never the Strangers - Sabay (#10) #10 Pupil - Why (NEW)
I've always been a fan of hers since the 80's and it was great to know that she released an album of new material this year. I promptly bought the CD and this song was the one that stood out for me. I don't know if they released it already to radio, but I don't really care. I just pick songs that I like and if the rest of the world likes it soon enough, then great for her! This song is vintage Zsa Zsa in terms of arrangement and the way she sings it.
#9 Emmanuelle - Dear Diary
This girl has an EP which I bought in 2012 and I left out this song from last year deciding to include it in my OPM countdown this year - and it has stuck with me till the end of the year. I think the one who manages her also manages Markki Stroem (I could be wrong) but it's a pity that she hasn't really broken in the mainstream. She has strong songwriting skills which kinda reminds me of Taylor Swift during her early years.
#8 Sarah Geronimo - Ikot Ikot
I am not quite familiar as to how Sarah Geronimo evolved as an artist but this song is perfect for her and I think she matures a lot here, shedding of that pacute image that has always turned me off. If she continues to make music this way, then I might, just might, buy her CD. I am actually curious to hear what other material she is capable of producing.
#7 Franco - Better Days It's a pity I missed the concert of this band last April. I think it was too near the Easter holidays and I had some commitments. This is one of the best OPM songs this year, in terms of arrangement and originality! This song can definitely be marketed worldwide and I won't be surprised if somebody out there in the wide English speaking world picks it up!
#6 Ebe Dancel and the Cast of Sa Wakas - Bawat Daan Another beautiful OPM song this year and this time, it comes from a musical, Sa Wakas, on the songs of Ebe Dancel and Sugarfree. It's a beautifully written ballad and the way Ebe and the cast sings it is just amazing! Too bad I missed seeing the musical, to think the PETA Theatre is just five minutes from our house!
It's a very strong field in the rock category this year and these five are my most favorite OPM rock songs fo 2013. Here are the five nominees in this category - Chicosci - Raspberry Girl
Angeline Quinto becomes the first local artist to get four #1 songs from one album. Christian Bautista had three #1 songs in my OPM countdown from his exemplary Outbound album. This week, Angeline does one better. Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin, Wag Mo Akong Iwang Mag-Isa, and Patuloy ang Pangarap, all went to #1. This week, Pang-Habang Panahon makes it hit #4 to go all the way to #1.
Of course, she had the advantage of me listening to her CD, which is kinda difficult for me since I don't really have much time to listen to everyone's CD. It's more of a luck of the draw thing.
Anyway, here are my ten favorite OPM songs for the week ending March 8, 2013 -
#1 Angeline Quinto - Pang-Habang Panahon (#2)
#2 Juris - Hanggang Wakas (#9) #3 Toni Gonzaga - Kahit Na (#1) #4 Franco - Better Days (#4) #5 Chris Cayzer - Inside You (NEW) #6 Ebe Dancel - Tayo-tayo Lang (NEW) #7 Marion Aunor - If You Ever Change Your Mind (NEW) #8 Nyoy Volante - Pikit (#8) #9 Luigi D'Avola - Take A Chance (#10) #10 Gloc-9 / Kamikazee - Kunwari (NEW)
I was actually surprised to find out that this song is the first song from Toni Gonzaga to top my OPM countdown. I thought that she topped my OPM charts before. Anyway, Kahit Na becomes her first #1 song in my OPM countdown. Here are my ten favorite OPM songs for the week ending March 1, 2013 - #1 Toni Gonzaga - Kahit Na (#3) #2 Angeline Quinto - Pang-Habang Panahon (#2) #3 Sabrina ft. Ron Henley and Kat Agarrado's Hagdan is the first rap song to top my countdown this year. They move from #3 to #1.

It's not the first time that both Christian Bautista and Sabrina have topped My OPM Top 10 countdown. This is already Christian's fourth trip while it's the second for Sabrina. This time, it's for their collaboration on Terrified, a remake of Kara Di Guardia's song. This week, the song zooms from #10 to #1.
