My Ten Favorite Songs of 2013 (#'s 10-6)

These are my ten favorite songs of 2013.  The list excludes OPM songs.

#10 fun. - Sight of the Sun

I first heard this song being played after a great episode of the HBO show Girls.  I am a big fan of that show and some songs from their soundtrack is even in my yearend Top 100 countdown.

#9  Lorde - Royals

I wasn't an instant fan of Lorde when she came out in August and at that time, I was still ambivalent towards her music.  It was only when I heard Team did I realize that her earlier single, Royals, was very good!  Expect Team to chart high in 2014 as it is still climbing my personal countdown.  

#8 Robyn - Call Your Girlfriend

I have been a fan of Robyn since the 90s with songs like Show Me Love.  Even though this song was already in my Ipod as early as 2011, I only noticed it this year when the song was included in a Body Jam release!  And since I liked the choreography for this, the song became a major hit in my personal countdown as well.  

#7  Christina Aguilera - Let There Be Love

Since I love the Body Jam program so much, it is not unusual for some songs to top my personal countdown every year.   I loved the choreography of the song so much and the arch that the song takes as it reaches its climax!  

#6 Ne-yo featuring Jessica Sanchez

Another class that I enjoy joining in the gym is the Hip Hop class, and this year, we danced to this song.  It ultimately became memorable for me for personal reasons.  Also, it's quite a catchy dance hit!

fun.'s second #1 song, Sight of the Sun, slips from #17 to #21 this week.

fun. Is Back at #1 for the Second Time

fun. returns to the #1 spot this week, as Sight of the Sun, from the Girls soundtrack, moves from #2 to #1 this week.  Last year, Some Nights went to #1.  Nate Ruess also went to #1 as a solo artist, in a duet with Pink for the song Just Give Me A Reason.

Alexis Jordan burst into the scene in 2010 when her song Happiness topped my personal countdown.  Three years later, she gets to the top spot again with Hush Hush.  This is her third top ten hit in my personal countdown.

Fun. in the 2013 Grammys!!

I was not the least bit surprised when the Grammy voters gave nods to fun. for Album, Record and Song of the Year noms and Best New Artist as well. This group has crafted two of the best pop songs of the year - We Are Young and Some Nights, which is a personal favorite of mine!). Funny, but when I hear these guys sing, I think of the 80s legendary group Queen. Listen to their vocals, their clever musical arrangements, their made for stadium concert choruses - and well, the lead singer appears to be gay too - the influence of Queen is just all over the place. I still have to find out though in interviews if they have been channeling the group for their work here.

Vertical Horizon Tops My Personal Countdown for the Second time with All Is Said and Done

Vertical Horizon gets their second #1 song in my personal countdown this week, as All Is Said And Done moves one place to #1. Two weeks ago, The Lucky One stayed at #1 for one week.  This sudden interest in the band's music was due to their concert here a few weeks ago, which I watched. Here are my ten favorite songs this week -

Gloria Estefan Tops My Personal Countdown List for the Eleventh Time with Wepa

Here are my favorite songs for the week ending April 27, 2012.

#1 Gloria Estefan - Wepa (NEW)

Gloria Estefan is back on top of MyFABEMusic's Weekly Top 10, due mainly to this song's inclusion in the latest release of the Les Mills Program, Body Jam 60.  This is already her eleventh #1 song in my personal Top 10, which stretches way back to 1985 with Conga.  Here's a list of her songs which became my personal #1's -

This week, the first single from her album Little Miss Havana, Wepa, goes to #1 in my personal countdown.  This was due mainly to the song being present in the latest release of Body Jam 60, which is one of my favorite exercises.

#2 - Beyonce - Love on Top (RE)

This song was the first number one song in my personal countdown taken from Beyonce's '4' album.  It went to #1 end of last year.  The album eventually produced two more number one songs this year (End of Time and I Miss You).  Due again to its inclusion in the latest release of Body Jam, it reenters my personal list at #2 this week.

#3 - Madonna - I'm A Sinner (NEW)

MDNA was release a few weeks back and this week, five songs from the album crashes into my personal countdown.  The highest charting song is I'm A Sinner, which comes in at #3.

#4 - Madonna - I Fucked Up (NEW)

#5 - Madonna - Gang Bang (NEW)

#6 - Madonna - Girl Gone Wild (NEW)

#7 - Madonna - Turn Up the Radio (NEW)

#8 - Swedish House Mafia - One (RE)

This song was a top 10 song from early last year after Usher and Swedish House Mafia performed this in the American Music Awards.  This week, due again to its inclusion in the latest Body Jam release, it reenters at #8. 

#9 - fun. - Some Nights (9)

#10 - Chris Cornell - The Keeper (10)

Chart Performance: Janelle Monae

Thanks to her appearance in fun.'s #1 hit, We Are Young, Janelle Monae gets her first number 1 song in the US.  This week, the song slips to #8.

In the UK, the same song moves back up to #7 .  It's also her first UK Top 10 hit.

fun. is an American indie band.  Their album, Some Nights, has peaked at #3 in the US charts.

Their first number 1 song in the US was We Are Young, their collaboration with Janelle Monae.  Their second top 10 hit, Some Nights, has already peaked at #3.  This week, it slips to #8.   

The same song peaked at #2 in the UK charts and this week, stays at #10 for another week.
