Throwback Album of the Week: Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

The music of the 2000's wouldn't be complete without mentioning Norah Jones' work, especially her beautiful debut album, Come Away With Me.

It's my throwback album of the week and listening to it again more than 12 years since it came out doesn't make her work sound dated at all.  It still sounds as fresh as it sounded when it came out, and I wouldn't be surprised if it still tops the charts now, as it did then.  Her music here is just the complete antithesis of what was going on in music at that time.

It was really like having a breath of fresh air flow along the airwaves and placed everyone in that relaxed, languid and happy mood!

Definitely a treasure to keep for the ages!

Norah Jones Gets Subversive in 'Happy Pills'

It's really exciting to see Norah Jones continually evolve and experiment with her musical style.  I know her last album, The Fall, may have turned off some of her core fans but I really enjoyed that album since she infused rock into her vaunted adult contemporary sound.

Now, you'd better watch the video of Norah Jones first single, Happy Pills, from her new album, Little Broken Hearts, because the beautiful and innocent-looking Norah does something quite subversive - even if this is just role-playing.  I am still getting used to her shift to rock music but no complaints - I am hitching to her musical journey once again!

Chart Performance: Norah Jones

Norah Jones returns with her fourth top 10 album in the UK.  This week, Little Broken Hearts debuts at #4.

2002 - Come Away With Me (#1)
2004 - Feels Like Home (#1)
2007 - Not Too Late (#1)
2012 - Little Broken Hearts (#4)

In the US, the same album debuts at #2, its peak position.  It slips to #10 this week.  She has five top 10 albums in the US -

2002 - Come Away With Me (#1)
2004 - Feels Like Home (#1)
2007 - Not Too Late (#1)
2009 - The Fall (#3)
2012 - Little Broken Hearts (#2)

Album Review: The Rockin' Norah Jones in 'The Fall'

I am a big fan of Norah Jones and some of her songs is in the pantheon of my personal greatest hits.  However, it is a bit of a surprise that, NOT ONE, of her songs in her latest opus, The Fall, has become a personal favorite of mine.  Well, it's a solid album, and Norah does kinda rock a bit here - give a listen to Chasing Pirates and Even Though - and well, the old school Norah is still here - Back to Manhattan and Man of the Hour - but nothing here is really new! Which maybe good to some extent, but also, nothing interesting anymore to offer to a raving fan like me!  Oh well, just looking forward to her next album then!
