Concert Review: The Cranberries In Your Head: Zombie, Zombie, Eh, Eh, Eh

Everyone who was into 90s rock, specifically the Irish kind, and I don't mean U2, trooped to the Araneta Coliseum tonight to revel in the unique brand of rock offered by the Cranberries!

Admittedly, the band has been absent for a very long time since my last recollection of them was when Zombie became such a monster hit in the early 2000s.  However, my most favorite CD of them was 1996's To The Faithful Departed, which I remember buying in Cagayan de Oro! That CD contained some of the hits that they performed tonight, including Free to Decide, When You're Gone and their last encore song, Salvation.

Earlier this year, the band released a new album called Roses, and tonight, they previewed a LOT of material from their new album, Roses which included Conduct, Tomorrow, and my new favorite, Schizophrenic Playboys.  Their new songs don't detract much from their original sound but unfortunately, I didn't find any of them catchy enough, worthy of a Zombie-like hit but as I said earlier, Schizophrenic Playboys sounds pretty interesting!

They played many hits tonight.  Their two opening songs - Dreams and Linger among them.  Other big crowd pleasures included Ode to My Family, Just My Imagination, Be With You and of course, the crowd favorite, Zombie!

Dolores can still play a mean guitar set and she did Salvation in its original rapid speed. Even Be With You was played pretty quick. It's not surprising too that Dolores danced around the stage like a wild banshee - and although she limited her make-up to standard black - no gold costumes tonight dearies - she can still pull it off as a rocker mama! And she sounded great too!! So that was a good thing for all of us!

It was a very compact show even if they did around 22 songs thereabouts. I guess it's because Dolores didn't interact with the audience too much, which was a pity. I actually thought since she was already a veteran performer, that she would involve all of us in mindless chatter from time to time. But not tonight. Tonight was purely business and the band just played true to form.
